"WE WILL SURPRISE OUR CRITICS AGAINST BAYERN MUNICH" -Arsenal Boss, Arsene Wenger

According to his newsletter to Arsenal's supporters on Monday 17th, February, 2014, "Our intensity was impressive'

Dear Arsenal supporter,

It was such a big win for us on Sunday.

We needed to respond to our defeat at Anfield and, of course, we want to do well in the FA Cup. The intensity of our performance was impressive and you could sense our determination to get the right result.

We had a clinical desire from the first whistle to the last and I thought it was a great game between two very good teams. Liverpool are a strong team, they can create chances against anyone, but we had chances to score more goals too.

Defensively we were resilient, we were focused, and we looked like a strong unit despite the changes I made. Most of them were for medical reasons but all of the players who came in did well. It shows we have strength in depth.

Lukasz Fabianski was always going to play and I had no hesitation about that because I rate him highly. I have a huge respect for him and his attitude and his quality. He made some very important saves, including one in the first few minutes when Liverpool started strongly again.

Yaya Sanogo made his first start and, considering he is only just back from an injury, he was absolutely excellent. It was an intense game but he was always involved and he was a handful for Liverpool's defenders.

Nicklas Bendtner was another option for Sunday and he works very hard in training, but I wanted to give a chance to Sanogo. I think overall the performance of Sanogo justified it.

We have drawn Everton in the sixth round of the FA Cup and that will be a similar match to Sunday's. They are very, very good going forward and we'll need to control that game, but of course we have some time to think about it.

First of all let's focus on the Champions League and Bayern Munich. It is important to go into Wednesday's game without any negative pressure and Sunday's win will help us in that regard.

Everybody is saying that Bayern will win but I trust the spirit and the quality of my team to create a surprise. We are not the favourites but in football the favourite doesn't always win.

Thanks for your support".

Arsène Wenger
