All seems set for the maiden edition of Ajise-bi-oyo Carnival and Awards tentatively billed to take place between December 22nd and 23rd, 2011 at the ancient city of Ibadan. The carnival organizers said that choice of the word Ajise-bi-oyo simply represents the term Pacesetter which the Yoruba race stands for in the history of Nigeria irrespective of their town and/or states anywhere they find themselves. So, the effort is to reposition the Yoruba culture. It is therefore imperative to programme an exhibition of the Yoruba rich culture to the outside world to gain global attention.

As you are going through this, the organizers are awaiting the ratification of the new Honorable Commissioner for culture and Tourism of Oyo State for the actual date and other logistics. Ogbeni John Akinwoyin, the initiator of the project and the MD/CEO of SGOBOT Supply Services Limited said ‘the idea therefore is to re-awaken the Yoruba race through this project-Ajisebioyo and continue our pace-setting fronts en route our culture which is our source, way of life and our future if we want to compete with the world technologically. Being the maiden edition, we will be doing a two day pot-pouri of activities from the opening ceremony, street cultural carnival, the concert, dinner and award night’.
The theme of the carnival is “our culture, our heritage”. The carnival’s vision is to create a veritable platform aimed at placing the Yoruba culture especially from Oyo State, South-West Nigeria at an enviable height and as such a convergence of entertainment, arts and business potentials are explored. It is set to get Ibadan and its environs agog with street cultural carnival fire-works, Mega concert, walk for culture etc. Ajisebioyo carnival project consultant, Mr Alayande Stephen T, who doubles as the managing partner of Eagles House Global Resources, said that ‘the aim of the carnival includes usage of the carnival to woo investors to the state for future tourism development, to restore pride and promote the cultural heritage not only of Oyo State but that of the Yoruba people in general and to enhance and bring about unity, peaceful co-existence amongst the Oyo State people as a whole’.
