I’m still in the race for Lagos State NURTW chairmanship- MC Oluomo
Chairmanship aspirant for the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Musiliu Akinsanya alias MC Oluomo, has reiterated his aspiration to contest the chairmanship seat of the union.
He made this assertion while refuting the allegation of N200 million bribes leveled against him by some of his colleagues, describing it as a calculated plot by his enemies to truncate his NURTW chairmanship ambition which he still holds on to tenaciously.
Oluomo, who spoke in a telephone interview after several attempts to speak with him proved abortive, said that he has never in his life received any bribe from anyone and would not even attempt to do so at this crucial period of his struggles in the transport union.
He said that so far, he has made a lot of sacrifices to salvage the union as a bonafide member and that his activism in the union spans many years without any serious allegation of bribe, thereby maintaining that the N200 million accusation and stories in the media must have been sponsored by his detractors.
"I became a member of this union as a bus conductor when I was still very young and I worked hard to earn money. I believe in God's blessings and I don't get involved in shady deals. It's not in my character as a true Moslem and nobody can come out to say that I have ever received any bribe from him. I'm contented with the money and riches God has given to me in life," he stated, adding that his boss, Rafiu Akanni Olohunwa, whom they alleged that he received the bribe from, would not even joke with his money.
"It's true that I had a meeting with Olohunwa and our union president in Abuja but the meeting ended in a stalemate because I only gave my boss (Olohunwa) four options to meet with a deadline. We didn't conclude anything at the meeting and there was nothing having to do with money that we discussed," he explained.
MC Oluomo, who confirmed that he is still in the race to contest as Lagos NURTW chairman, also assured that there would be a free and fair election.
Meanwhile, some women on the platform of the Great Women Forum of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, last week, stormed the Ikoyi residence of the former governor of the state and leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to protest the alleged imposition of a leader of the transport union on their members.
Findings however revealed that the women numbering over 400 had initially staged a peaceful protest on Sunday but were told that the ACN national leader was not around. They were later attended to last week by an aide of the former governor, who said that the politician had promised to resolve the crisis in the union.
A leader of the group, Chief Mrs. Oyindamola Agunbiade, representing the Campus Street, Lagos Island wing of the women's group said both Oluomo and Olohunwa are notable members of the ACN and that's the reason why they have come to appeal to Tinubu to resolve the transport union crisis.
